Witnesses step up in rave rape

RCMP investigating the sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl at a rave in Pitt Meadows said Thursday that a pair of witnesses had come forward to police with information.

“We respect the courage that it took for these two young adults to come forward under extreme peer pressure,” said Sgt. Peter Thiessen.

Investigators now believe 10 to 12 people (not the five to seven reported earlier) witnessed the sexual assault at the Sept. 10 rave.

Thiessen appealed to the other witnesses to come forward, even anonymously, through Facebook, Twitter, texting or by calling Crime Stoppers.

Photos of the rape were distributed through social media sites.

They are considered child pornography because of the girl’s age.

Thiessen said people have heeded the RCMP’s warning about the photos for the most part, but admitted that they had spread through the Internet beyond Pitt Meadows and B.C.

Two teens have been arrested, but no charges have been laid.
