Woman dies hours after hit and run

A woman died in hospital early yesterday morning after being struck by two vehicles at Steeles Avenue E. and Silver Star Boulevard on Tuesday evening.

A woman died in hospital early yesterday morning after being struck by two vehicles at Steeles Avenue E. and Silver Star Boulevard on Tuesday evening.

The victim was crossing Steeles when she was struck by a van. A second vehicle travelling northbound on Silver Star Boulevard struck the woman again as she lay on the ground at about 5:30 p.m.

The driver of the van remained at the scene but the second vehicle drove off. A friend of the victim quickly arrived at the scene to be by her friend’s side, said Toronto police Staff Sgt. Tim Ralph.

The victim, a 30-year-old woman, was taken to hospital but succumbed to her injuries at about 4:15 a.m.

The second vehicle is believed to be a light-coloured Toyota Corolla, said Ralph.

Ralph said police are still looking for witnesses as they determine whether charges will be laid against the first driver.

“The matter is still under investigation,” he said.

He didn’t release what type of injuries the woman sustained.

The area was closed off for much of Tuesday evening as police investigated but had reopened by yesterday morning.
