Edmonton police are investigating the city’s 24th homicide of 2010.
Police responded to a request to check on the welfare of a resident just before 4 p.m. Monday.
A body was found inside a home near 108 Avenue and 52 Street, police said.
EPS spokesperson Lisa Sobchyshyn said initial reports indicate the victim was a woman in her 40s, but her identity will be withheld pending an autopsy.
Investigators canvassed the neighbourhood and spoke to residents yesterday morning in a hunt for clues.
Area resident Len Belcourt believes the woman was living alone and was surprised to hear of the incident.
“Nope, never heard a thing, never saw a thing … the police were going back and forth … they came and asked us some questions,” he said outside his home.

There were 25 homicides at this time last year.
