You don’t need to stress over IBS

April is Irritable Bowel Syndrome Awareness Month. IBS is a common disorder of the large intestine (colon), which results in cramping, bloating, gas, diarrhea and constipation.

“It can be horribly debilitating for many people,” says Boston-based holistic practitioner Kendra Strasburg. Strasburg is an Institute for Integrative Nutrition certified holistic health coach accredited by the American Association for Drugless Practitioners.

“The good news is there are ways to rid yourself of symptoms naturally. Like any digestive flare-up, IBS can be a result of something eaten, but it can also be caused by stress. One of the most effective ways to manage it is to exercise regularly, as it keeps things moving in our digestive tracts. Probably the most important player in the IBS management game,” she advises, “is diet. Most often, there is a link between what is being eaten and how our bodies react. The trick is learning what your body is reacting to.”
