Planning a big getaway or family visit this summer? It may still be several months away, but no doubt you’ve booked any necessary flights and accommodation already.
Have you thought about all the other needs? Here’s a checklist to get you going:
>> Make sure your passport is up to date and won’t expire while you’re away.
>> Call the embassy or consulate of the country or countries you’ll be visiting and find out which visas and inoculations are required.
>> If you’re renting a car, be sure you have a valid driver’s licence.
>> Fill any and all prescriptions you’ll need before leaving. Foreign pharmacies may not recognize your doctor.
>> Be sure you have travel medical insurance — either through your credit card provider or bought specifically for the trip.
>> Though U.S. dollars seem to be accepted everywhere, have some local currency on you. It’s handy as soon as you land, in the airport, for porters, luggage buggies, taxis, etc.
>> Start gathering items ahead, such as your preferred suntan lotions, bug sprays, specialty baby products, etc.
