This anti-soda advertisement from the Department of Health is stirring up quite the controversy.

The ad relates soda portion sizes to type 2 diabetes, and consequently, amputations.

One can infer that the depicted amputation was caused by a diabetic complication, but the New York Times published the original image, showing that the missing leg was the result of Photoshop, not soda.

Critics are crying foul that the advertisement is misleading.

The DOH defended their choice, “We might stop using actors in our ads if the food industry stops using actors in theirs.”
