Police officers in a southeastern London neighborhood shot two assailants after they allegedly killed a person with a machete. According to reports the victim is a soldier from a nearby barracks. The attack happened near the Woolwich Barracks.

Nick Robinson, political editor of the British Broadcasting Corporation, confirmed that British government was treating the attack as terror-related.

A bystander who witnessed the gruesome act of violence live-tweeted the entire event. [related tag="London"]

According to geolocation data, the Twitter user was also recently in the area of the attack.

A video has been circulating of the man thought to have been involved in the beheading of the soldier.

“I apologize that women had to witness this today but in our country our women see this happening all the time,” the man speaking with a London accent says in the video.

Another witness named James told London’s LBC radio, “We saw clearly two knives, meat cleavers. They were big kitchen knives like you would use in a buthcer’s. They were hacking at this poor guy. We thought they were trying to remove organs from him.”

“These two guys were crazed, they were not there, they were just animals. They then dragged him from the pavement and dumped his body in the middle of the road,” James said.

Sister Zakia and Tasha Clarke recently lost their mother, Jackie Underwood, to breast cancer at age 51.

Ever since the two sisters have been donning hats that say “Fu** Cancer.”

“That’s how we feel. It took our mom away. It’s a demon. It’s the devil,” Zakia told the Philadelphia Daily News. “There are no other words you can use to explain how you feel. You want cancer to get cancer and die.”

Zakia and Tasha wore the hats when they went shopping for funeral dresses at the King of Prussia Mall on Sunday. [related tag="cancer"]

While at the food court they were approached by a security guard who told them to take the hats off immediately.

Tasha refused asking the security guard to show her “something in writing.”

Then the girls were ordered to leave the mall and the guard called for backup. That is when seven additional security guards showed up and the two girls were escorted to the mall office where they met by a police officer.

Zakia said the police officer said, “I find it offensive that you even have that hat that says ‘Fu** CANCER.”

“He said, ‘It’s their mall, they want you out, you have to get out,’” Zakia said.

Last night the world got its answer to one of the most puzzling questions: How do you pronounce GIF. It is with a hard or soft G?

At the 17th annual Webby Awards at Cipriani Wall Street, the inventor of the GIF, Steve Wilhite, accepted the award for Lifetime Achievement by ending, once and for all, the pronunciation debate. [related tag="tech"]

Instead of giving a 5-word acceptance speech, Wilhite chose to accept his award with a GIF.

“It’s pronounced “JIF” not “GIF,”” a GIF on the screen read.

Despite clarification from the inventor himself, there are still some who refuse to accept the real pronunciation.

According to Daily Intelligencer other Webby guests were skeptical.

Randi Zuckerberg, Mark’s sister, said her “whole world has been turned upsdie down,” since she always pronounced it with a hard G.

“I usually do JIF. I usually try to do it properly. I don’t really care; I won’t correct anybody, but I usually go with JIF. Both are pretty weird words,” said newly rich Tumblr founder, David Karp. “It’s Graphic Interchange Format, and you would think it was a ‘Gah’ sound, a hard G.”

President Barack Obama’s e-campaign team felt the strongest about the revelation.

“F*** that sh**,” Harper Reed, Obama’s former chief technology officer told Daily Intelligencer. “It is GIF.

The Obama campaign’s digital director, Teddy Goff, said, “it is GIF all the way, and I do not care what the founder thinks.”

“If people think it’s JIF, they’re not very smart, said Michael Slaby, Obama’s former chief integration and innovation officer. “Sometimes you create a monster and that monster takes a life of its own, and the GIF has taken on a life of its own apart from the founder and his intent.”

With his new film "World War Z" coming out next month Brad Pitt is making headlines recently. After he revealed he might be face blind: meaning he does not remember anyone’s faces, it is now announced, via an Esquire interview, that he is done with sex scenes.

As we write this, we can hear teenage hearts from the 1990s breaking worldwide. [related tag="Brad-Pitt"]

According to Esquire, Brad Pitt avoids onscreen sex scenes, out of respect for Angelina Jolie, and she does the same for him.

Pitt’s interview in the June/July issue of the magazine includes a quote from his good friend Frank Pollaro about the romance and love between Pitt and Jolie.

“Once I walked in and Angie was standing there and Zahara [the couple’s eight-year-old daughter] walked up and said, ‘Daddy, you’re not going to start making out with Mommy again, are you?’ And it’s like that,” Frank revealed.

“This is a guy who has tried not to do any sex scenes with other women since he’s met Angelina. He’s crazy about her, and she’s the same way about him.”

Pitt also opened up about his current relationship with Jolie as well as his ex-marriage to Jennifer Aniston.

“For a long time I thought I did too much damage – drug damage. I was a bit of a drifter. I went years fucking off. But then I got burnt out and felt that I was wasting my opportunity. It was a conscious change. This was about a decade ago. It was an epiphany – a decision not to squander my opportunities. It was a feeling of get up. Because otherwise, what’s the point?”

Pitt says he’s the happiest he’s ever been now.

“ I have a handful of close friends and I have my family and I haven’t known life to be any happier,” he said. “I’m making things. I just haven’t known life to be any happier.”

With his new film “World War Z” coming out next month Brad Pitt is making headlines recently. After he revealed he might be face blind: meaning he does not remember anyone’s faces, it is now announced, via an Esquire interview, that he is done with sex scenes.

As we write this, we can hear teenage hearts from the 1990s breaking worldwide. <fieldset class="related"><legend align="center">Related Articles</legend>

The Word: Is Brad Pitt face blind?

Angelina Jolie mastectomy changes her from gossip fodder to heroine

</fieldset>

Poppo was homeless and after the attack lost his eyesight and most of his face.

According to a press release from doctors at Jackson Memorial Perdue Medical Center, a long-term care facility where Poppo has been recovering, Poppo is “living happily and adjusting to his new life.”

During his recovery he has learned to play the guitar and follows the Miami Heat basketball team.

“He’s had a long year, but has managed to cope quite well,” Jackson Memorial Hospital plastic surgeon Dr. Woody Kassira said at a press conference.

Since his rehabilitation, Poppo has put on 50 pounds and learned to feed and dress himself as well as shower and shave.

Poppo has undergone four surgeries and he has further reconstructive work that will be performed including prosthetics.

Karissa said Poppo is “content” with “how his life is now.”

“He was a simple guy before this, and a simple guy now,” said surgeon Urmen Desai. “He’s older, he is blind, he can’t see what he looks like, and it’s not important to him how the world sees him.”

“He wants the world to know he’s not traumatized by this … and that he’s happy and grateful for being alive after such an incident,” Desai said. “Things are very positive for Mr. Poppo.”

Up until a few years ago, a world-class music festival was missing from New York City. That’s when Jordan Wolowitz and his friends took it upon themselves to create one.

The idea was simple: great music and a good venue located in New York City. Wolowitz left his job in December 2010 and eight weeks later announced Governors Ball.

When the festival first launched in 2011, it was only a daylong concert series with Girl Talk headlining. By the following year, it was a two-day festival with Beck and Passion Pit as the main acts. [related tag="music-festival"]

“The trend is that it takes a couple of years to build a successful music festival,” Wolowitz says.

This year, Governors Ball is on its way to becoming a city music festival that rivals that of Chicago’s Lollapolooza, Wolowitz says.

“What you’re seeing [this year] is where we wanted to be,” Wolowitz says. “It’s a diverse and contemporary music festival.”

There’s a lot of buzz around this year’s headliners. Kings of Leon are releasing a new album, and for many this will be their first time seeing Guns N’ Roses live. As for Kanye West, well, he’s just everywhere. [related tag="Kanye-West"]

The festival offers an array of activities other than music. A focus point of this year’s festival is the food.

“Everyone agrees that whey they go to a festival and are hungry, the only options are hot dogs and nachos,” Wolowitz says.

This year, New York City staples like Rickshaw Dumpling Bar, Luke’s, Num Pang, Little Muenster and Bareburger will be some of the food vendors on site.

During daylong music festivals, breaks are needed. Other activities on the island include a silent disco, a photo booth, lawn games and ping-pong tables.

“We want this to be a full-day activity for people,” Wolowitz says. “While I would love it for everyone to love all acts performing, people need a breather to do other things.”

While there are some big-name bands playing, the festival is also a platform for younger artists to promote themselves to wider audiences.

“Governors Ball is a festival for die-hard music fans, for casual music fans, and for those who like experiencing the arts and culture," Wolowitz says. “It’s a place where you can go experience the best music that’s out there while immersing yourself in New York City culture.”

Twenty years ago, Zach Galifianakis moved to Los Angeles to test his luck as an actor. At the time, he befriended a laundromat volunteer named Elizabeth “Mimi” Haist.

The two remained friends over the years, but after Galifianakis’ career skyrocketed after the first “Hangover,” the two friends lost touch. [related tag="Zach-Galifianakis"]

In the time they lost touch, Haist became homeless. When Galifianakis heard the news, he quickly found her a modest apartment to live in. He still pays her rent and utilities.

Their friendship goes beyond Galifianakis’ financial support. The comedian has made it a habit to take Haist, now 87, with him to red carpet events in Hollywood.

“If he’s in town, he takes me. Otherwise he lets me take a friend,” Haist told the New York Daily News. “I dress up nice and a friend helps me with my makeup. It’s fun, not something I’ve ever dreamed I’d experience. The limo takes me home afterwards.”

When out with the movie star, Haist likes to sip on lemon drop martinis with Grey Goose vodka.

Haist still works at Fox Laundry and will reportedly join Galifianakis at the premiere for “Hangover Part III” next week.

One of Paris’ most visited sites was evacuated Tuesday.

Approximately 1,500 people were evacuated from the Notre Dame after a man committed suicide in the 850-year-old cathedral, according to the Associated Press.

A police official announced the cathedral, located on Paris’ Ile de la Cite, was closed to the public after the incident Tuesday afternoon. The police official wouldn’t confirm to French media outlets that the man had shot himself. [related tag="suicide"]

According to reports, the man put a letter on the altar, then pulled out a gun and shot himself in the head.

Monsignor Patrick Jacquin, the cathedral’s rector, told the Associated Press that this is the first suicide in decades at the site.

“It’s unfortunate, it’s dramatic, it’s shocking,’ he said.

An evacuation is very uncommon at the cathedral, which is visited by approximately 13 million people from around the world every year.

The cathedral will open again for an evening service that church officials said will include a prayer for the man who committed suicide.

About 30,000 travelers moving through Connecticut dealt with grueling commutes Monday as trains between Boston and New York remained canceled due to a train crash Friday that injured more than 70 passengers and crew members.

A Metro-North train derailed and then was hit by another train between Fairfield and Bridgeport, Conn.

Many buses bound for New York from Boston’s South Station were already sold out early Monday morning.

While the snafu had little impact on Boston-area traffic, Total Traffic Network reporter Nichole Davis warned of hold-ups heading south.

"Anyone heading toward Connecticut is going to find snarled traffic there," she said.

Unemployment is difficult. For one London woman, it’s even harder to find a job — because of her good looks.

Laura Fernee has been unemployed for two years, and says it’s not due to a lack of skills.

“I’m not lazy and I’m no bimbo,” Fernee told The Daily Mail. “The truth is my good looks have caused massive problems for me when it comes to employment, so I’ve made the decision that employment just isn’t for me at the moment. It’s not my fault … I can’t help the way I look.” [related tag="humor"]

Fernee has a PhD in science and was working at a medical research lab from 2008 to 2011. There she earned approximately $45,000 annually. She quit in 2011 citing comments from her co-workers about her physical appearance.

“In the end, as much as I love my work, going in to work became very, very difficult because of the psychological impact on me,” she said during an appearance on ITV’s ‘This Morning."

If you’re wondering what Fernee has been doing in the past two years to support herself, she has had her wealthy family to fall back on.

The Daily Mirror reports that her parents, Catherine and Alan, have been covering their daughter’s expenses.

“I know people will judge me for choosing not to work, but they are underestimating just what a curse good looks can be in the workplace,” Fernee insists. “Everyone thinks it must be great to be attractive, but there are serious downsides.”

Mental illness can affect young adults, and even children. But with the proper diagnosis and treatment, young people can go on to lead healthy, productive lives.

Here are some quick statistics to consider:

• Four million children and adolescents in this country suffer from a serious mental disorder that causes significant functional impairments at home, at school and with peers.
• Of children ages 9 to 17, 21 percent have a diagnosable mental or addictive disorder that causes at least minimal impairment.
• Half of all lifetime cases of mental disorders begin by age 14. Despite effective treatments, there are long delays, sometimes decades, between the first onset of symptoms and when people seek and receive treatment. An untreated mental disorder can lead to a more severe, more difficult to treat illness and to the development of co-occurring mental illnesses.
• In any given year, only 20 percent of children with mental disorders are identified and receive mental health services.
• Suicide is the third leading cause of death in youth ages 15 to 24. More teenagers and young adults die from suicide than from cancer, heart disease, AIDS, birth defects, stroke, pneumonia, influenza and chronic lung disease combined.
• Approximately 50 percent of students age 14 and older who are living with a mental illness drop out of high school. This is the highest dropout rate of any disability group.
• Left untreated, childhood disorders are likely to persist and lead to a downward spiral of school failure, limited or lack of employment opportunities, and poverty in adulthood. No other illnesses harm so many children so seriously.
• Early and effective mental health treatment can prevent a significant proportion of delinquent and violent youth from future violence and crime. It also enables children and adolescents to succeed in school, to develop socially and to fully experience the developmental opportunities of childhood.

The Child and Family Institute at St. Luke’s and Roosevelt Hospitals treats children and adolescents ages 0 to 18. For more information visit www.childfamilyinstituteny.org.

Osteoporosis and osteopenia, both conditions characterized by loss of bone mass, are major health concerns in the United States. Throughout our lifespan, bone is constantly broken down and rebuilt, usually in a balanced way that results in bone growth and mineral accumulation in bones (bone mineral density) that supports a strong skeleton.

As we age, this accumulation reaches its highest point (peak bone mineral density) and gradually shifts towards bone loss. Osteopenia occurs when bone mineral density declines below a healthy value; osteoporosis is its more severe manifestation, and both increase the risk of bone fractures.

The most recent national survey estimates that 9 percent of people over age 50 have osteoporosis, while 49 percent have osteopenia. In other words, more than half of the aging U.S. population has a chronic bone disease that puts them at risk for injury. When bone fractures occur in older people with osteopenia or osteoporosis, patients often require surgery, usually followed by a prolonged recovery period, often in a nursing facility. They may still experience significant pain and/or a permanent decline in function, or even death — an estimated 20 percent of those who suffer osteoporosis-related fractures die within a year.

Reduce your risk

There are many lifestyle changes that everyone at any age can make to help reduce their risk of osteopenia, osteoporosis and bone fractures:
• Get an adequate amount of vitamin D and calcium from your diet.
• Engage in consistent weight-bearing and muscle-strengthening physical activity.
• Avoid tobacco and excess alcohol consumption.

Vitamin D and calcium are the superstars of bone health. Most of the body’s calcium is stored in the bones, and adequate calcium intake is essential for healthy bone formation. Vitamin D is important for calcium absorption from the gastrointestinal tract and helps maintain the balance between calcium deposited in the bones and the calcium in body fluids. Adequate dietary intake of both nutrients is important for achieving peak bone mineral density in early life (for most people by age 30, with adolescence being the most important time for building strong bones) and maintaining bone mineral density in later years.

Calcium

The recommended daily intake of calcium is 1,000 mg for women age 19-50 and men age 19-70, and 1,200 mg for women 51 years and older and men 71 years and older.

Consuming a healthy, well-balanced diet generally provides adequate amounts of calcium from food sources. About three daily servings of low- or nonfat dairy products (1 serving = 8 oz. of milk or 6 oz. of yogurt or 1o oz. of cheese) can provide the majority of daily needs. For people who do not consume dairy products, there is a wide variety of good nondairy food sources, including dark green leafy vegetables, the soft bones of fatty fish, such as salmon and sardines, and calcium-fortified foods.

If adequate calcium intake still cannot be obtained from diet alone, a calcium supplement with vitamin D may be considered. These should be taken with food and in quantities of less than 500 mg of calcium per dose, to optimize absorption.

Vitamin D

The recommended daily intake for vitamin D is 600 IU (15 mcg) for adults age 19-70, and 800 IU (20 mcg) for adults 71 years and older.

Vitamin D is found in various food sources, including liver, egg yolks, fatty fish such as salmon, herring and sardines, and fortified foods, such as fluid milk (cow, soy, almond, rice, etc.), yogurt and breakfast cereals.

The human body can produce its own vitamin D through sun exposure, and this contributes to a person’s vitamin D status. Unfortunately, there are currently no guidelines as to an appropriate amount of sun exposure for this purpose.

Individuals at risk for vitamin D deficiency, including the elderly, individuals with limited sun exposure, obese individuals and people with dark skin, may benefit from vitamin D supplements.

In an effort to raise public awareness about breast and ovarian cancer prevention, actress and director Angelina Jolie shared her personal story with the world. Her op-ed piece in the New York Times revealed that a family history of cancer had prompted Jolie to seek genetic testing for the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes, which are associated with hereditary breast and ovarian cancer.

The testing revealed a heightened risk for both, and she made the decision to undergo a preventative double mastectomy, reducing her breast cancer risk to under 5 percent.

The Stats
Approximately 5-10 percent of breast and ovarian cancers are due to genetic defects, known as mutations, that cause an increased risk for cancer, mostly due to the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes.

The general population has a 12 percent risk of breast cancer and 1 to 2 percent risk of ovarian cancer. For women with a BRCA1 or BRCA2 inherited mutations, the risks are significantly greater, with a lifetime risk of breast cancer up to 87 percent and a 27 to 44 percent risk of ovarian cancer.

Options
Knowing their risk empowers women to make informed decisions about their health, cancer screening and the option of risk-reducing surgery. It also enables family members to determine their risk of having the same genetic mutation. For women who have this mutation, it is important to remember that there are options. While Jolie opted for preventative surgery, another option is close surveillance with imaging and physical exams.

Who should consider testing?
Women with a personal or family history of breast cancer (particularly those diagnosed before the age of 50) or ovarian cancer are encouraged to speak to their doctor and to seek the expertise of a genetic counselor to assess the likelihood of a hereditary cancer gene in their family. Genetic counselors are specially trained health care professionals who can talk with women prior to and after genetic testing to help them understand the implications of their genetic test results, not only for themselves but for their family members.

Continuum Cancer Centers of New York provides genetic counseling to help determine the likelihood of a cancer gene and to discuss what steps patients can take to be proactive in their fight against cancer. For an appointment, call 212.844.6231. Allana Maiden started a petition on Change.org asking Victoria’s Secret to make a “Survivor Line” of mastectomy bras after watching her mother struggle for years to find a nice bra that fit her new body.

“My mom is a breast cancer survivor -- 21 years cancer-free! I'm so inspired by her strength and hope, and after everything she went through, it doesn't seem fair that shopping for bras is such a discouraging, time consuming and frustrating ordeal,” she wrote on the petition. “There are so many women out there, like my mom, who have survived breast cancer but are left feeling altered and uncomfortable because of undergoing chemotherapy, radiation and surgery. I think they deserve to feel beautiful and Victoria's Secret is the perfect company to help make that happen with a line of "Survivor" mastectomy bras.”

The petition gained momentum with more than 120,000 supporters. [related tag="bras"]

It turns out, Victoria’s Secret is not up for the task of making the Survivor Bras.

“Through our research, we have learned that fitting and selling mastectomy bras in the right way … a way that is beneficial to women is complicated and truly a science. As a result, we believe that the best way for us to make an impact for our customers is to continue funding cancer research,” Victoria’s Secret said in a statement.

Maiden seems to be disappointed her favorite bra retailer won’t help breast cancer survivors directly.

“My mom and I have always said how much we appreciate Victoria’s Secret research efforts. But cancer research doesn’t help survivors feel beautiful after the battle is over – mastectomy bras do,” she said in a statement. “This is a company that prides itself in innovation that helps women feel beautiful. I don’t think cancer survivors like my mom should be the exception to the rule.”

The news comes only a week following Angelina Jolie's announcement that she had a double mastectomy to reduce her change of breast and ovarian cancer.

"On a personal note, I do not feel any less of a woman. I feel empowered that I made a strong choice that in no way diminishes my femininity," Jolie wrote in her op-ed.

Despite Victoria’s Secret’s response, Maiden has been able to rely on other retailers.

“My mom and I have had an amazing experience at Nordstrom – a store that’s already figured out that ‘science’ of helping breast cancer survivors. But with more than 1,000 stores in 49 states, Victoria’s Secret is in a position to help empower so many women to feel beautiful after their battle with cancer,” she said.

A young Florida woman was expelled and then arrested after continuing a same-sex relationship with another girl from her high school.

Kaitlyn Hunt is an 18-year-old senior from Indian River County, Fla. She is facing felony charges for being involved in a sexual relationship with another girl at her school.

The romance began when Hunt was 17 and the other girl involved was 14. [related tag="LGBT"]

When Hunt’s girlfriend’s parents found out about the relationship, they went to the police to report it and press charges.

Hunt was arrested and charged with two counts of felony lewd and lascivious batter on a child 12-16.

According to Florida law, the age of consent is 18. Hunt’s mother believes the situation has little to do with that and is more so about homophobia.

“They are out to destroy my daughter, because they feel like she ‘made’ their daughter gay. They see being gay as wrong and they blame my daughter. Of course, I see it 100% differently. I don’t see or label these girls as gay. They are teenagers in high school experimenting with their sexuality – with mutual consent. And even if their daughter is gay, who cares? She is still their daughter.”

Hunt’s school, Sebastian River High School, where she was voted Student with the Most School Spirit, has also taken action against her. She was kicked off the school’s basketball team by the coach in order to avoid “drama.” In addition, following pressure from Hunt’s girlfriend’s parents, the school board voted to expel Hunt.

Hunt's little sister, who also goes to the school, has seen comments such as “rapist,” “child abuser” and “criminal” written about Hunt on the bathroom walls.

Hunt is now faced with two options. She can accept Assistant State Attorney Brian Workman’s plea deal, which would require her to admit to a felony, spend two years under house arrest and possibly end up on the sex offender registry for life; or go to trial. She has until the end of the week to decide.

In the meantime, Hunt's family launched a petition to “Stop the hate. While many people in Saudi Arabia may be using Twitter, it doesn't mean some Saudi officials are happy with that.

Sheikh Abdul Latif Abdul Azziz al-Sheikh told BBC News that Muslims who use Twitter or any other type of social media have “lost this world and this afterlife.”

While the use of social media is increasing, Saudi Arabia’s religious police force disapprove of the sites.

Saudi government is worried social media could help the political opposition in the country organize and spread, as it has in other Middle Eastern countries.

“The Kindom is particularly concerned with how Twitter has been used to keep people informed of human rights activists who have been tried for the crime of free speech,” writes Jonathan Truly, professor of law at the George Washington University Law School. “Leaders on the web have been detained while others have been charted with apostasy and other crimes for statements made on these sites.”

A few years ago, Saudi Arabia threatened to ban BlackBerry devices unless the company allowed the government to read users’ messages. According to reports, the company reportedly decided to agree to those demands.

In a recent blog post, software engineer Moxie Marlinspike said that Saudi Arabia wants the ability to spy on other messaging services like Viber and WhatsApp as well.

Richard Swanson's mission was cut short.

The 42-year old planned a journey to dribble a soccer ball from Seattle to Brazil, the host nation of the 2014 World Cup. Swanson planned his arrival to the South American country in time for the big soccer tournament. [related tag="Brazil"]

He was less than two weeks into his journey when he died after being struck by a car in Oregon, police said. Swanson was struck as he walked on a road on the outskirts of Lincoln City, said Lincoln City Police Sergeant Randy Weaver. His soccer ball was found nearby.

In a Facebook page called “Breakaway Brazil,” Swansons friends mourned him. Swanson used that Facebook page to document his travels.

“It is with a heavy heart to notify you that Richard Swanson passed on this morning,” a post on the Facebook page said. It was signed “Team Richard.” “His team, family, friends, and loved ones will miss him and love him dearly. You made it to Brazil in our hearts, Richard.”

During his travels, Swanson planned on traveling through countries such as Colombia, Nicaragua and Mexico. He asked for donations through the Facebook page to help fund his trip.

He departed from Seattle on May 1. He carried only a sleeping bag in his backpack and sought out people’s help along the way.

In a video posted to YouTube, Swanson explained that he was making the trip after being laid off and having difficulty finding a new job.

An Arizona jury found on Wednesday that Jodi Arias, a California woman convicted in a sensational trial of brutally murdering her ex-boyfriend, inflicted extreme cruelty on her victim and is thus eligible for the death penalty. [related tag="Jodi-Arias"]

The White House on Wednesday released 100 pages of emails detailing discussion inside the administration over last year's deadly attacks on a U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya.

President Barack Obama has faced Republican criticism that his administration covered up details of the assault, especially after a news report last week said memos on the incident were edited to omit a CIA warning of an al Qaeda threat.

Senior administration officials told reporters at the White House the emails were released to clear up misinformation about the process. The emails were the basis for the controversial "talking points" memos that U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice used when discussing the attacks that killed four Americans in Benghazi.

The officials said the emails showed the talking points were based on intelligence information approved by the CIA and meant to avoid pre-judging the outcome of an FBI investigation into the September 12, 2012, attacks.

Republicans say the talking points were an attempt by the administration to portray the attacks as arising from a spontaneous protest, and not an organized terrorist assault as Obama campaigned for re-election.

School children write letters to President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden all the time. Many of those letter writers never get a response. One Wisconsin boy got a very personal response from Vice President Biden.

A second grade student at Downtown Montessori Academy wrote a letter to Vice President Biden a few months ago suggesting that if guns shot chocolate bullets, no one would get hurt. [related tag="guns"]

In true Joe Biden fashion, he responded to the 7-year-old student earlier this week with a hand-written response.

Biden agrees that the world would be safer if guns were loaded with chocolate bullets as “People love chocolate.”

In response to Abercrombie & Fitch’s refusal to carry XL or XXL sizes in women’s clothing, one man is taking it upon himself to rebrand the retailer.

Greg Karber is so fed up with Abercrombie & Fitch’s attitude of only wanting to dress pretty, skinny and cool kids that he started a campaign to donate Abercrombie & Fitch clothing to homeless people.

The narration in Karber’s video starts by saying, “Abercrombie & Fitch is a terrible company.” [related tag="Abercrombie-&-Fitch"]

The company's CEO, Mike Jeffries, has on multiple occasions said he only wants cool kids to wear his clothes.

“In every school there are the cool and popular kids, and then there are the not-so-cool kids,” Jeffries said in a 2006 interview with Salon. “Candidly, we go after the cool kids. We go after the attractive All-American kid with the great attitude and a lot of friends. A lot of people don’t belong [in our clothes], and they can’t belong. Are we exclusionary? Absolutely.”

Karber hit up a Goodwill in Los Angeles and scoured the racks for Abercrombie & Fitch clothing.

With as much A&F clothing as he could find he headed to Skid Row in East Los Angeles – where the largest population of homeless people in America can be found.

“It was time to do some charity,” he says in the video.

At first some of the homeless were reluctant to take the clothing.

“Perhaps they were afraid of being perceived as narcissist date rapists,” Karber says. “But pretty soon they accepted it wholeheartedly and my expedition was a huge success.”

Karber created the video in hopes that more people would join his campaign.

One person can’t clothe the homeless or transform a brand on his own, he says.

He asks the public to pitch in with these three ways:

1. Look through your closets, your friends’ closets and your neighbors’ closets for A&F clothing.
2. Give them away to your local homeless shelter.
3. Share what you’re dong on Facebook and Twitter (or Google+ if you’re actually using that.)

Karber has created the hashtag #FitchTheHomeless to spread the word.

Lawyers seeking to overturn the murder conviction of a Honduran man who has been on Florida's death row since 2006 presented new DNA and blood stain evidence in a Florida court on Tuesday.

Clemente Aguirre-Jarquin, 33, was convicted in the 2004 murders of his neighbors at a Seminole County trailer park. Cheryl Williams, 47, was stabbed 129 times, and her mother, Carol Bareis, 69, was stabbed twice.

Blood stain expert Barie Goetz testified Tuesday that the killer would have been splattered with blood spurting from 131 stab wounds from a 10-inch knife at close range. Goetz said the blood found on the thigh area of Aguirre's shorts were contact stains and matched Aguirre's claim that he found the bodies and rolled them over to check for a pulse.

"The wearer of those shorts did not inflict the injuries to Cheryl Williams," said Goetz, a Pennsylvania-based forensic consultant. Goetz also testified that Aguirre's bloody shoe prints at the scene indicated careful walking around the bodies.

The Innocence Project, which is dedicated to using DNA testing to exonerate those who are wrongly convicted, and Aguirre's appellate legal team also obtained DNA analysis of some of the 150 blood stains photographed and swabbed at the crime scene but never tested.

NEW DNA EVIDENCE

The new DNA analysis concluded that eight blood stains at the crime scene matched Samantha Williams, the daughter and granddaughter of the victims, and none matched Aguirre, according to a report by the Innocence Project.

Samantha Williams had a history of mental illness, and during two mental breakdowns after Aguirre's conviction confessed to the killings, according to the report. Witnesses also said Samantha and her mother had a heated argument before the killings, and that Samantha sent her boyfriend to her mother's trailer the next morning, saying she had a "bad feeling" something had happened to her.

Nina Morrison, a lawyer for the Innocence Project, told Reuters that Samantha Williams has been subpoenaed to testify Wednesday.

Aguirre's legal team is asking Judge Jessica Recksiedler to reverse the conviction based on either the new evidence, the ineffectiveness of Aguirre's trial lawyer or actual innocence.

A spokeswoman for the Seminole County State Attorney's office which prosecuted Aguirre would not comment on whether it would challenge the new evidence in court.

In 2006, the same year Aguirre was convicted, Milton Dedge, who spent 22 years on death row, became the first person in the Florida freed as a result of new DNA evidence. Dedge was convicted by the same prosecutor's office as Aguirre and was represented post-conviction by a legal team which included the Innocence Project and Morrison.

Aguirre maintained his innocence from the beginning and testified on his own behalf at trial.

Aguirre said he often socialized with the Williams family, and went to their trailer at 6 a.m. on June 17, 2004 looking for a beer to help him sleep. Aguirre said he found the bodies, rolled Cheryl over to check for a pulse, and grabbed a knife near the bodies for protection in case the killer was still present.

As an illegal immigrant, Aguirre decided not to call police out of fear he would be deported back to the violent barrio in Honduras from which he had fled to America. He said he tossed his blood-smeared clothes in a bag, hid the bag on his roof and initially denied knowing anything when questioned by police. Later on that day, he told police how he had found the bodies.

Morrison and Goetz said that DNA testing was well established when Aguirre went to trial and could have been requested by his defense lawyer.

Witnesses also said Samantha and her mother had a heated argument before the killings, and that Samantha sent her boyfriend to her mother’s trailer the next morning, saying she had a “bad feeling” something had happened to her.

Nina Morrison, a lawyer for the Innocence Project, told Reuters that Samantha Williams has been subpoenaed to testify Wednesday.

Aguirre’s legal team is asking Judge Jessica Recksiedler to reverse the conviction based on either the new evidence, the ineffectiveness of Aguirre’s trial lawyer or actual innocence.

A spokeswoman for the Seminole County State Attorney’s office which prosecuted Aguirre would not comment on whether it would challenge the new evidence in court.

In 2006, the same year Aguirre was convicted, Milton Dedge, who spent 22 years on death row, became the first person in the Florida freed as a result of new DNA evidence. Dedge was convicted by the same prosecutor’s office as Aguirre and was represented post-conviction by a legal team which included the Innocence Project and Morrison.

Italian center-right leader Silvio Berlusconi was questioned by Rome prosecutors for three hours on Tuesday over allegations the former prime minister paid 750,000 euros to buy the silence of people aware that he used prostitutes.

The interrogation centered on a case in which the 76-year-old media tycoon is believed to have been the victim of extortion by three former associates, sources at the prosecutors office said.

One of these associates, businessman Gianpaolo Tarantini, is accused of providing prostitutes for parties at Berlusconi's private villa outside Milan.

Berlusconi is also accused by prosecutors in the southern city of Bari of "inducement to give false testimony," by paying the money to Tarantini, Tarantini's wife, and a former political associate, Walter Lavitola.

Berlusconi, whose People of Freedom party is vital to the survival of the left-right coalition government of Prime Minister Enrico Letta, has seen his many legal difficulties mount in recent weeks.

On Monday, prosecutors in Milan called for him to serve six years in jail on charges of abuse of office and paying for sex with a minor, and last week he lost an appeal against a four year sentence for tax fraud.

The verdict in the Milan sex case is expected next month, while Berlusconi has launched a second and final appeal against the tax fraud conviction. He will serve no time in jail until the appeals process, which can last for years, is exhausted.

Berlusconi denies any wrongdoing in all the cases against him.

Hipsters are so passé. It turns out, Americans aren’t big fans of them.

In a new poll but Public Policy Polling just 16 percent of Americans said they have a favorable opinion of hipsters. Forty-two percent have an unfavorable opinion and forty-three percent are not sure. Undecided? How hipster of them. [related tag="hipsters"]

The concept of a hipster also got political in the recent poll. Democrats are twice as likely as Republicans to have a favorable opinion of hipsters. As expected, younglings, 18-29, have a favorable opinion of them, but only six percent of those over age 65 do.

More from PPP:

"We asked voters whether they thought hipsters made a positive cultural contribution to society or whether they just “soullessly appropriate cultural tropes from the past for their own ironic amusement.” 23% of voters said they made positive cultural contributions while nearly half – 46% – went with soulless cultural appropriation. Independents at 31% were most likely to say hipsters make a positive cultural contribution, while Republicans were least likely (15%) with Democrats in the middle (23%)."

To further prove America is so over hipsters, 27 percent of voters said they thought hipsters should be subjected to a special tax for being so annoying.

In the most hipster aspect of the poll, only 10 percent of voters said they consider themselves to be hipsters. If there’s one thing that makes you a hipster, is not identifying with the term.

Now for the most shocking statistic, 21 percent said they thought Pabst Blue Ribbon, commonly associated with hipsters, was a good beer.

Disney is known as “The Happiest Place on Earth.” According to a new book, it might be a bit happier for the rich.

In a new book titled “Primates of Park Avenue,” social anthropologist Dr. Wednesday Martin claims that “Upper crust” moms use a “black market” connection to hire handicapped tour guides to walk them through Disney World so they can take advantage of the line skipping auxiliary entrances for the disabled.

The “black market Disney Guides” allegedly charge about $130 an hour for their services. The New York Post reports that the paying that for an eight-hour day is still cheaper than the $310 an hour price tag for a Disney World fast pass and VIP guide.

“Who wants a speed pass when you can use your black-market handicapped guide to circumvent the lines all together?” Dr. Martin writes. [related tag="Disney"]

“My daughter waited one minute to get on ‘It’s a Small World’ – the other kids had to wait 2 ½ hours,” one mom is quoted saying. “You can’t go to Disney without a tour concierge. This is how the 1 percent does Disney.”

Disney allows each guest who needs a wheelchair or motorized scooter to bring up to six guests to a more convenience entrance, according to the Post.

According to the Post, a phone number for the guide service was passed around “Manhattan’s private-school set” over spring break.

Dream Tours, which is named in the Post story as one of the services used by New Yorkers, denied involvement.

Ryan Clement, who runs the company with his girlfriend who is handicapped, told the Post his girlfriend, Jacie Christiano does not exploit her disability for profit.

Culture is a dominant force in France. The food, the art, the film and the music are exceptional.

France is now planning a tax on smartphones and tablets in order to fund the production of French art, film and music.

The tax could charge up to four percent on the sale of each device and could start as soon as next year. The proposal was made in a government-commissioned report and was endorsed by President Francois Hollande’s administration. [related tag="France"]

The tax will also include items that allow access via the Internet to “cultural content” such as game consoles and e-readers. The report claims that it is lawful for the government to issue the tax because it “corrects excessive imbalances.”

“Companies that make these tablets must, in minor ways, be made to contribute part to the revenue from their sales to help creators,” said Aurelie Filipetti, culture minister.

Filipetti said the tax should be held at a low level so it doesn’t drive consumers into a black market. While the tax could be up to four percent it also might be as low as one percent, which would raise 86 million euros annually.

France has a history of taxing in order to fund cultural production. In the past, taxes on television companies and distributors funded French film.
