Timberlake is not just another pretty Facebook

Despite co-starring in “The Social Network” — David Fincher’s new film chronicling the controversial founding of the most popular site on the Internet — Justin Timberlake is no expert on Facebook or its impact. “People are still asking the question, ‘Is it a good thing or is it a bad thing?” muses Timberlake, who plays Napster inventor Sean Parker, an early FB investor. “I don’t know why they expect an answer [from me].  I’m ridiculously stupid when it comes to computers and social networking.”

But expert or not, the singer and actor — who isn’t one of the site’s 500 million-plus users — is trying to understand the phenomenon. “It’s a party and you’re throwing it. That’s the intrigue behind having your own Facebook page and creating your own profile,” he says. “It’s your world.”

Although he comes from more of a musical background, Timberlake jumped at the chance to work with Fincher, a director well known for his grueling shooting days, where individual scenes can near 100 takes. “He said, ‘I’ll try to be cognizant of you starting to grow tired of as many takes as I like to do,’” Timberlake remembers. “I came into this movie completely knowing my role and excited about it.”
