NBC confirms 2011-12 season at upfronts

NBC introduced its 2011-12 lineup to advertisers today, kicking off the television networks’ annual upfronts, a week of presentations in which they debut new programming to attract ad dollars.

Six new dramas and six new comedies have been ordered in a lineup that includes a comedy block on Wednesdays and a drama at 10 p.m., Monday through Thursday.

The season’s new fall dramas are “Prime Suspect," "The Playboy Club” and “Grimm”; "Smash,” "Awake" and "The Firm" are slated for mid-season. New fall comedies are "Up All Night," "Whitney" and “Free Agents,” while "Are You There, Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea," "Best Friends Forever" and "Bent” will debut mid-season.

Returning shows include "Parenthood," "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," "Harry’s Law," "Chuck" (for its fifth and final season of 13 episodes), "Community," "Parks and Recreation," "The Office," "30 Rock" and "Dateline NBC." Among next season’s returning alternative series are "The Voice," "The Sing-Off," "The Celebrity Apprentice" and "The Biggest Loser," each in two-hour formats.

From Brian Grazer, this drama takes place at the legendary Playboy Club in Chicago in the early ’60s. Eddie Cibrian, Amber Heard and Laura Benanti star.

WEDNESDAY

8-8:30 p.m. – "UP ALL NIGHT"

Will Arnett and Christina Applegate star as new parents trying to figure out if they can have it all in this comedy from Lorne Michaels.

8:30-9 p.m. – "FREE AGENTS"

Hank Azaria and Kathryn Hahn are coworkers who shouldn’t be dating — let alone sleeping together — in this workplace comedy.

9-10 p.m. — "Harry’s Law"

10-11 p.m. — "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit"

8-8:30 p.m. – "Community"

8:30-9 p.m. — "Parks and Recreation"

9-9:30 p.m. – "The Office"

From comedian Whitney Cummings comes this comedy about love without marriage.

10-11 p.m. – "PRIME SUSPECT"

Peter Berg reimagines the hit British cop series about tough detective Jane Timoney. Maria Bello takes on the role made famous by Helen Mirren.

8-9 p.m. – "Chuck"

9-10 p.m. – "GRIMM"

Fairy tales are real — and only a Grimm, a “supernatural hunter” like detective Nick Burkhardt (David Giuntoli), can protect humans from them.
