Mitch Hurwitz: ‘Arrested Development’ creator promises one last season before movie

The cast of 'Arrested Development.'

The stars have finally aligned: the Bluth family is headed for the big screen – and the small screen once again.

Speaking at the New Yorker festival, the show’s creator, Mitch Hurwitz, said he planned on doing a last “limited” season of the show.

The short season will feature 9-10 episodes with each episode focusing on one of the characters. The final season will be a lead up to the much buzzed about movie.

The show, about a dysfunctional family and the one man who tried to hold them all together, was cut from FOX after only three seasons. Despite bad ratings (what does FOX expect when they air the show against Monday Night Football?) the show has garnered a widespread fan-base and cult following, even after it was taken off the air.

Will Arnett, who played magician/illusionist/unemployed brother Gob Bluth, also confirmed the news by tweeting:

“I’m peeing with @batemanjason at the moment..and we can confirm that we are going to make new AD eps and a movie.”

Now, we’ve gotten our hopes up before about an ‘Arrested Development’ movie, so we’ll have to see it to believe it.

The wait isn’t entirely over, as no release date has been announced yet.

Two months ago Jason Bateman, who played Michael Bluth, appeared on NPR’s ‘Wait Wait … Don’tTell Me!’ and said, “If you’re speaking of the ‘Arrested Development’ movie, that seems to be moving along quite nicely.”

So there you have it, not much new information about the movie, just another promise (let’s hope not a false one!) that it is in fact happening.
