Brace yourself Hollywood, Ricky Gervais will host Golden Globes

Ricky Gervais

Remember the fiasco that was Ricky Gervais hosting the Golden Globes? How could you forget he hasn’t stopped talking about it.

Gervais is back, for the third year in a row, as host of the show that will air on Jan. 15, 2012.

According to People.com, the decision was made after the Hollywood Foreign Press Association met with a top official at NBC, which is airing the awards.

“While many welcome Gervais’s return, not everyone is happy with the decision because last year his blunt one-liners targeting big-name celebrities caused anger and resentment in some quarters,” says a blog post on the HFPA’s own web site.

The post, titled “Yes, Ricky’s Back!” reads:

After weeks of rumours it’s finally official—Ricky Gervais will be back to host the Golden Globes for a third year, the HFPA president Dr. Aida Takla O’Reilly announced.

The association voted  overwhelmingly for the controversial British comedian’s return and NBC’s senior vice president of special events and late night programming, Doug Vaughan, said: “Ricky is delighted to be coming back.  He said the G0lden Globes show is the most fun he has ever had.”

The Golden Globes awards ceremony, which will be televised worldwide, will be held on January 15 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

Gervais confirmed the news by tweeting “Just told Billy Crystal he’d better not use any of my holocaust or pedophile material at The Oscars,”

Gervais took a lot of heat last year after some say he went too far with his jokes aimed toward Angelina Jolie, Robert Downey Jr., Charlie Sheen and the President of the HFPA.
