Enjoy a summer of yum with local foodie happenings

Tavern on the Water: It’s exactly what its name promises.

Summer in the city means embracing all that the season offers, like blue crabs, hippie chic baked goods and harborside noshing.

The pre-punk early 1970s was a time of innocence and idealism and flares and fun! Local 149′s ’70s Dinner Party celebrates with era dishes like angels and devils on horseback (bacon-wrapped dates and oysters), Swiss cheese fondue, steak Diane, baked Alaska and hemp brownies. (We’re sure it wasn’t hemp in those brownies of yore, though.) Your ticket includes four ’70s-inspired cocktails and lots of 1970s tunes.

Maryland blue crab season is at its peak, and the Blue Room’s Blue Crab + Beer Fest lines up an all-you-can-eat spread of Maryland blue crabs, New England steamers, corn on the cob and potatoes served family-picnic style on the Kendall Square patio. Pair it with as much icy local brew from Narragansett Beer, Pretty Things Brewery and Cambridge Brewing Company as you can drink without losing your cool.

Go Harborside for Tavern on the Water and Angel Flight NE’s Night for a Flight fundraiser, which includes an open bar as well as unlimited passed appetizers.

At Church’s locavore dinner, Chef Jon Gilman teams with Nantucket’s Cisco Brewery pairing a heirloom tomato terrine with Grey Lady, an amazingly tasty witbier; Whale’s Tale pale ale with seasonal bluefish pate with gooseberry; and littlenecks with pork belly confit, purslane and free-range egg tagliatelle with the bitter-fruity Indie IPA.

New England bounty, bring it on.
