Shelf Life: Sugar-free cocktails for the new year

For a less guilty cocktail, add 2 oz. of Devotion's Perfect Cosmo vodka to 2 oz. of sugar-free cranberry juice.

What we’re drinking this week: The Perfect Cosmo, a new low-calorie vodka from Devotion. Yes, that’s the same brand that added protein to vodka in the name of fitness — we’re trying to forgive more in 2013.

What it is: This one’s essentially a citrus-flavored vodka designed to mix with cranberry juice — which isn’t that impressive considering you can now buy vodka that smells like cake batter (can, not should, friends). But unlike some of its flavored peers, this one is completely sugar-free and doesn’t contain gluten, making it a little more compatible with some of our New Year’s resolutions.

It tastes like: A very drunk lime, with enough zip of orange to convince you there’s some vitamin C in there.

Mix it with: Cranberry juice is the obvious choice, but try it with orange juice for a screwdriver that’ll wake you right up. Or put you right to sleep. The bottle might have angel wings and hearts on it, but it’s still 80-proof.

The verdict: If you’re a bartender with a mustache and/or suspenders, The Perfect Cosmo will induce a Wicked Witch-style meltdown. But if you’re not too cool to order a Cosmo in the first place? Make room for this one on your shelf.
