It’s the icy time of year when we conjure up a last-minute February escape to Carnaval in Brazil or make plans for a summer share on Fire Island.  Fantasies of warm sun parties on Euro islands make cathartic daydreams.  This video from Dutch artist Caro Emerald for example.  Let’s all duck out on frigid urban mornings and hop a boat to an underground party where no one carries a purse, ready?

Continental Europe can also be a bit slow on the uptake.  Rockabilly fashion, for example, simmers on as evidenced by the popularity of young Caro’s red side flower on the hit charts.  But isn’t that what we love about Euroland?  There’s no rush, just jazzy turntablism and a horn section ready to play retro scales in answer to a Dutch girl’s scatting.  

Who needs high employment when you’ve got sidewalk cafes, mopeds and chateaus?  Take our musical hand-me-downs and play sold-out shows in Monte Carlo and Ibiza; jazz and mambo get the most glamorous of garage sales spread out over Europe’s stoop.
