Caspian play first show since founding member’s sudden death
Chris Friedrich died unexpectedly last Sunday, on Aug. 25. The founding bassist of the instrumental post-rock band Caspian was 32 years old. The band made the announcement of his passing on their Facebook page a few days later, but did not disclose the cause of death and requested privacy.
This weekend they played a show in New Hampshire that Friedrich had set up, a benefit for a friend who needed a lung transplant.
Caspian have always been known for an intense live show, but from all accounts, this gig was a celebration of the life of a fallen brother.
“I knew it was going to be a definitive experience, a one-time life event. Of Caspain’s life. Of Chris’ family’s life. Of my life. I didn’t know HOW definitive… Until I felt the power, the presence, the overwhelming emotion when the music began,” wrote fan Joshua Utter on the band’s Facebook page after the New Hampshire gig.
