Julianne, the title of the show is “Orange is the New Black,” not “Blackface is the New Black.”

The “Dancing with the Stars” celebrity went out to the Casamigos Tequila Halloween Party in Los Angeles on Friday night dressed as the black character Crazy Eyes from the hit Netflix, complete with a darkened complexion. The 25-year-old actress and dancer received a flurry of criticism after photos of her Halloween costume were posted on gossip websites and she has since apologized.

The blonde-haired, blue-eyed celebrity wrote on Twitter, “I am a huge fan of the show Orange is the New black, actress Uzo Aduba, and the character she has created. It certainly was never my intention to be disrespectful or demeaning to anyone in any way. I realize my costume hurt and offended people and I truly apologize.”

Hough wore an orange jumpsuit, dark makeup on her skin and twisted her hair in a fashion similar to that of Crazy Eyes. She came with a few friends who dressed as other characters from the show.

Hough isn’t the only celebrity who has worn blackface. Ted Danson famously offended many people when he wore blackface at a Friars Club Roast of Whoopi Goldberg in 1993: Hough might be too young to remember and learn from the serious faux-pas.
