VIDEO: Samuel L. Jackson schools anchor for confusing him with Laurence Fishburne

KTLA anchor Sam Rubin’s interview with Samuel L. Jackson went sour when he confused the actor with Laurence Fishburne. He asked, “Did you get a lot of reaction to that Super Bowl commercial?”

“What Super Bowl commercial?” Jackson asked testily. Rubin’s face seemed to register the mistake but it was already too late. “You’re as crazy as the people on Twitter!” said Jackson. “I’m not Laurence Fishburne. We don’t all look alike! We’re black and famous but we don’t look alike! You’re the entertainment reporter for this station and you don’t know the difference between me and Laurence Fishburne? There must be a very short line for your job.”

Rubin kept trying to change the subject to talk about Jackson’s new film, “RoboCop,” but Jackson would not take the bait.

“Let’s talk about ‘RoboCop,’” Rubin said several times as he laughed uncomfortably.

“Oh hell no. Really? Really?” asked Jackson.

“I’m the other guy. There’s more than one black guy doing commercials. I’m the ‘what’s in your wallet’ black guy. He’s the car black guy. Morgan Freeman is the other black guy. You only hear his voice, though, so you probably won’t confuse him with Laurence Fishburne,” said Jackson. To clear things up, he added, “I’ve never done a McDonald’s or Kentucky Fried Chicken commercial.”

It took more than two minutes for Rubin to steer the conversation back to “RoboCop,” and unsurprisingly, the rest of the interview was awkward as well.

“I’m the only black guy in ‘RoboCop’ who’s not a criminal other than Michael K. Williams,” noted Jackson. Jackson also wanted to help Rubin out for any future interviews with the white cast members of “RoboCop.” He said, “Do some research and make sure you don’t confuse them with other white actors.”

Rubin apologized later on air and implied that he was referring to a “Captain America” ad featuring Jackson during the Super Bowl and was too flustered to correct him. At least Jackson didn’t call Rubin a motherf–.
