It may come as no surprise to Boston foodies that the James Beard Foundation blog on Wednesday named several local eateries, restauranteurs and chefs to its list of semifinalists for the 2014 Restaurant and Chef Awards.

Asta made the cut for Best New Restaurant, The Hawthorne is up for the Outstanding Bar Program award and Hamersley’s Bistro is vying for Outstanding Restaurant.

Boston restauranteurs Garrett Harker (Eastern Standard, Island Creek Oyster Bar, The Hawthorne and others) and Barbara Lynch Gruppo (No. 9 Park, Menton, B&G Oysters and others) are in the running to take home the award for Outstanding Restauranteur.

L’Espalier was recognized for Outstanding Service, while Troquet was selected for its Outstanding Wine Program.

Not to be left out, two of Boston’s most creative meal creators are up for Best Chef in the Northeast — Jamie Bissonnette, of Coppa, and Joanne Chang, of Flour Bakery + Cafe.

The 2014 James Beard Awards will be held in New York City on May 2 and 5.

According to the blog, the process of selecting semifinalists began in October with an open call online; anyone could submit up to two entries per category.

After receiving close to 40,000 submissions, JBF’s Restaurant and Chef Awards Committee of critics, writers and editors went to work creating the list of semifinalists for each award.

The full list of semifinalists is available at
