‘Book of Mormon’ leads Tony noms

“The Book of Mormon” received 14 Tony nominations, including one for star Andrew Rannells.

Former winners Matthew Broderick and Anika Noni Rose yesterday informed New York’s theater artists of their candidacy for the 2011 Tony Awards. Unsurprisingly, “The Book of Mormon” took a top slot with 14 nods; other heavy hitters included “The Scottsboro Boys” and “Anything Goes” with 12 and 9 nominations, respectively. A favorite to sweep each of its five categories is newcomer “The Normal Heart,” which just opened April 27. The biggest surprise was the lack of Daniel Radcliffe’s name among best actor contenders for his work on the “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” revival. The 65th Annual Tony Awards will air on June 12 on CBS.
