Holiday Garden Railway
Friday, 4-7:30 p.m.
Morris Arboretum
100 E. Northwestern Ave.
Adults $16, seniors $14, students $7, free for members and children under 3
The quarter mile of model train track — is seven loops and tunnels, 15 different rail lines, two cable cars, nine bridges and a trestle bridge you can walk under — is lit up this year and decorated for the holiday season. Bring your flashlight and guide your way through the garden as it gets dark! If you can’t make it this weekend, you have one more chance to see it next Friday. Advance tickets are required.

The Trans-Siberian Orchestra

Saturday, 3 and 8 p.m.
Wells Fargo Center
3601 S. Broad St.
$30-$70, 1-800-298-4200
This popular rock band is back in Philly for their annual holiday tour, and this year they will take the stage performing “A Lost Christmas Eve,” the last installment of their Christmas trilogy. Their ability to incorporate classical and progressive elements into hard rock is unlike anything in the music world. Listen to “Carol of the Bells” and you’ll understand.

‘The Nutcracker’

Through Dec. 29
Academy of Music
240 S. Broad St.
Watch Marie, the Sugar Plum Fairy and the Nutcracker Prince as they take you away to the magical Land of Sweets. The Pennsylvania Ballet’s performance of “George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker” is back this holiday season, set to the famous Tchaikovsky score performed by the Pennsylvania Ballet’s Orchestra and the Philadelphia Boys Choir. Don’t miss this holiday classic.

Santa at Frankford Hall
Saturday and Sunday, noon-3 p.m.
Frankford Hall
1210 Frankford Ave.
Free, 215-634-3338
Instead of standing in long lines at the mall waiting to get your picture taken with Santa, head to Frankford Hall. Kids under 10 eat free, with a choice of a cheeseburger or a hot dog. The Ja Ja Jas, a German pop band, also known as the “Frankford Hall Carolers” will be singing Christmas carols all afternoon. Snap a photo of your family with Santa and tag @StarrRestaurant and #FrankfordHallHolidays for a chance to win a Stephen Starr gift card.

Philadelphia Independent Craft Market’s Holiday Show
Saturday, noon-7 p.m.
Crane Arts Building
1400 N. American St.
Finish up your Christmas shopping at this 7th annual holiday bazaar, featuring more than 60 craft vendors offering antiques, jewelry, artwork, clothes, crafts and more. There will be live music and free beer, courtesy of Philadelphia Brewing Company. Fuel up for all that shopping with snacks from food trucks Vernalicious, The Foo Truck and Cupcake Carnivale.
