New York City is one of the top NYE destinations in the world, but with over 1 million people packed into a few city blocks, you might enjoy celebrating virtually instead of watching the ball drop in real life. But staying home just to watch it on TV is pretty lame. With the new Times Square Ball app, you can tune in on your phone wherever you’re out celebrating.

The free app for iPhone and Android features the six hour livecast that over a billion people worldwide will be watching on TV. There’s also plenty you won’t see on TV, such as backstage interviews with celebrities and a live Twitter feed from the Times Square Ball, which will be tweeting news and photos of the million-plus crowd below.

“We created the app because there’s a whole other audience that can’t be near their televisions or are overseas, but still want to be apart of the countdown and the final seconds with us,” Jeff Straus, president of Countdown Entertainment, which organizes the Times Square NYE festivities tells Reuters.

The app will be available to download starting December 30 at midnight.
