Foodies, rejoice!

A new dining project is coming to New York. When it will open, what it will be called and where exactly it will be placed is still a secret, but one thing is for sure is: it’s got to be interesting because the front man is the acclaimed chef Anthony Bourdain, most recently host of “Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown” on CNN.

The unnamed baby is going to be a large-scale food market in Manhattan that, according to the New York Post, “will spotlight cuisines from all around the world,” as well as “give young chefs a showcase to strut their stuff” and “introduce Americans to Singapore-style street food.”

“As the greatest city in the world, I’ve long felt that we should have the kind of delicious, diverse food centers that Singapore ( for instance) enjoys,” Bourdain tells Eater. “My likes are pretty well known: dai pai dong in Hong Kong, Boqueria in Spain, hawker centers in Singapore, street tostadas in Ensenada. To the extent that I can help bring those things home to New York, along with a truly interesting collection of home grown innovators, I will be very, very pleased. If nothing else, I hope to soon be able to enjoy a really good Chicken Rice in NYC.”

The chef has teamed up with entrepreneur Stephen Werther, who gave a little teaser about where the market will be placed to NY Post. “It’s part of a big development project,” they report. And to top the curiosity, Werther said, “We are ready to go with the concept, so we are going to be doing some very cool and unexpected pop-ups between now and the opening…”

So, double check the next time you see an extraordinary eye-catching food car — who knows if Bourdain and Werther are behind it?
