What are New York’s hottest bars of the moment? Harry Raymond, co-founder of Shindig, gave us a look at the watering holes that are trending on the new app for “drink explorers” looking to try places beyond the neighborhood bar.
Raymond and his team took a look at data from the past 60 days to see which bars have shown the greatest increases in popularity on the app; Raymond gave us his take on why these bars are so hot right now.
d.b.a. – 328 percent increase in popularity
This bar’s motto is “drink good stuff.” d.b.a. is known for its craft beers and whiskey selection and for nearly two decades, this East Village bar has been an under-appreciated gem for drink explorers. Raymond says the bar is trending this spring because of their beautiful backyard.
Winslow Public House – 400 percent increase in popularity
This bar is the newcomer on the list. Word seems to be getting out about this British pub meets cocktail bar in Gramercy. Friendly bartenders specialize in making herb-infused gin and tonics (Raymond suggests trying one with Juniper berries). The Winslow is nice addition to a neighborhood lacking bars with character and cocktail chops, says Raymond.
Alphabet City Beer Co – 250 percent increase in popularity
Soon after opening on Ave C, this beer geek oasis was badly damaged by Hurricane Sandy. That’s why we’re so excited to see this part-beer bar, part-store trending on Shindig. Perhaps it’s the 350 craft beer bottles in the retail section or the big communal table, but ABC is back on its feet.
Maison Premiere – 71 percent increase in popularity
The $1 oyster specials, fantastic cocktail menu and extensive Absinthe selection make this the Willisamsburg place to be this spring.
Sweet and Vicious – 650 percent increase in popularity
Sweet and Vicious has a popular backyard area that gets busy in the spring and summer. Grab a jargarita (margarita in a mason jar) and hang out with a techie, hipster crowd in Nolita.
Brass Monkey – 325 percent increase in popularity
This West Village bar with a rooftop area is a standby during the summer months.
Stan’s Sports Bar & Grill – 1800 percent increase in popularity
Don’t make a trip to the Bronx without grabbing a drink at Stan’s. Stan’s is operated by FDNY and only opens during Yankees’ home games. The Yankees are back with a strong team so no surprise to see this pre-game staple trending.
Want to discover new bars and drinks? Find out what your bartender is drinking on Shindig. “One of the things we’re really excited about is that a lot of the bartenders and brewmasters in New York have started to use it to share what they’re drinking and also to discover new drinks,” says Raymond. Raymond says that bartenders from places like Hotel Chantelle and Bronx Brewery use the app to share photos from their bars and even debut new drinks.
