Spike Lee definitely did the wrong thing when he sent out George Zimmerman’s home address to his 240,000-plus Twitter followers. Unfortunately for both Lee and an elderly Florida couple, it was the wrong address.

Elaine McClain, 71, and David McClain, 73, have no connection to Zimmerman but when Lee retweeted a message with their Sanford, Fla., home address and a note that said “EVERYBODY REPOST THIS,” it was the McClains who feared for their lives, reports the Smoking Gun.

Lee apologized to the McClains after he realized his mistake and settled with them for $10,000.

The McClains have now filed for a lawsuit against Lee, in which they say he was “encouraging a dangerous mob mentality among his Twitter followers, as well as the public-at-large.” The lawsuit also states that the McClains have suffered “injuries and damages” subsequent to the March 29, 2012, settlement they made with Lee, as their address still circulated on social media websites even after Lee took down the tweet.

Though the lawsuit has not set monetary damages, the McClains’ counsel valued the lawsuit at $1.2 million.
