We knew deep down Simon Cowell was a big old softie.

The “X-Factor” judge cuddled his newborn son Eric shortly after his girlfriend Lauren Silverman gave birth Friday. It was a very special Valentine’s Day for the couple, who named their son after Cowell’s late father.

“Very happy to say Erin was born at 17:45 p.m. Healthy and handsome. Lauren is in great shape. Thanks for all of your kind messages,” Cowell tweeted shortly after his son’s birth.

When we caught up with Cowell last month, he was very excited about becoming a father. “I hope that I can have the same relationship I had with my dad,” he told us. “He wasn’t someone who was a great disciplinarian. We had a fun relationship. He gave me really constructive advice in my life, which I still carry today and pass on to other people.

“So if I can have the same relationship with my son as I had with my dad, then I think he’ll be very happy and I’ll be very happy.”

Given his excitement, it’s not surprising that Cowell couldn’t wait to share photos of his son with the world. “Mum, Dad and Eric. Now two days old,” he captioned one of him holding Eric, with Silverman. “Now you can see how very handsome little Eric is,” he captioned another. “I never knew how much pride I could feel,” he tweeted yesterday.

Congrats to the happy couple!
