Facebook users upset Steven Spielberg killed a dinosaur

The infamous image, posted to Facebook.

Some Facebook users were up in arms over a photo from the set of the 1993 film “Jurassic Park” showing director Steven Spielberg smiling in front of a “dead” triceratops. The image was posted to the social media site by Jay Branscomb with the tongue-in-cheek caption “Disgraceful photo of recreational hunter happily posing next to a Triceratops he just slaughtered. Please share so the world can name and shame this despicable man.”

Of course, this being the Internet, there were plenty of commenters who have somehow never heard of the blockbuster movie or its sequels, don’t know dinosaurs are extinct, and felt a powerful need to let the world know that, calling Spielberg “disgusting,” inhumane” and an “animal killer.” We’re giving Gawker a nod for best media reaction for the headline: “Steven Spielberg Exposed as Inhumane, Dinosaur-Hunting Prick.”

The post racked up over 30,000 shares and nearly 6,000 comments. Fortunately for the human race, the majority seemed to be sarcastic versus sincere.

Earlier this month, Texas cheerleader Kendall Jones sparked Internet ire with her Facebook page, where she posts photos of herself posing with dead animals she shot during safari trips in Africa. (Jones countered that she’s a conservationist helping protect the land.) Branscomb was likely referencing the cheerleader with his Spielberg post. And earlier this week, Axelle Despiegelaere, aka the World Cup’s “most beautiful” fan, was fired from L’Oreal for her own Facebook hunting pictures.
