Kate Nash indulges in a little ‘Girl Talk’

Kate Nash arrived in New York two nights ahead of February’s blizzard but smack into the storm that is Fashion Week. Considering Nash recorded her new album, “Girl Talk,” and filmed three movie roles last year, it’s not surprising she’s already packed designer shows and DJing Teen Vogue’s party, which morphed into actress Chloe Moretz’ Sweet Sixteenth, into her promo schedule. No jet lag slacking for the Brit singer songwriter, that’s clear.
“Once you get your head around it and don’t take it too seriously, it’s really fun,” says Nash of New York City’s notoriously insane Fashion Week. “It’s just a fun trip, really.”
If the 25-year-old sounds a little different this time, it’s probably because she is. The punk-y pop “Girl Talk” was fueled by a breakup and, well, girl power – notably, her all-girl band and some good-listening gal pals.
“Women connect with each other on an emotional level in a really big way,” Nash says. “That was a really important thing for me over the last year, what with all the personal things I was going through.”
She often uses the phrase “going through” in reference to the breakup.
“The record itself is like, basically, purging for me,” she continues. “Purging what I was going through.”
Kate Nash has revamped her style a bit, with the key component of that word being “vamp.” She says she’s not trying to be somebody she isn’t though.
“Fashion is liberating and empowering once you’ve figured out your personal style,” she says. “It’s getting your head around it in the right way and not trying to change yourself or something. It’s about making you feel good.”
