Updated: Kings of Leon unveil new details about ‘Mechanical Bull’

After a hiatus left the future of Kings of Leon up in the air, the band has begun their media blitz. After a well-received headlining slot at the Governors Ball this weekend, the band had Jimmy Fallon make an announcement about their new album, which will be called “Mechanical Bull,” and come out on September 24th. That’s pretty much all that Fallon says, but you can watch the video below.

Earlier this month, bassist Jared Followill hosted an impromptu chat with fans via Twitter and was asked to compare the sound of the new album to the band’s previous releases.

“Vibe/feeling could be compared to the first couple,” Followill tweeted. “It’s much more musically complicated though, so I’d have to say the last 2.”

In March, Followill told NME that he was amazed by how “youthful” the album sounds, comparing it to the band’s earlier albums, “Youth & Young Manhood,” and “Because of the Times.” He confirmed that the yet-to-be named album is slated to release in September.

Kings of Leon followed the critical and commercial success of 2008′s “Only by The Night,” with 2010′s “Come Around Sundown,” which received a Grammy nomination for Best Rock Album.
