Jay Z ‘officially’ drops hyphen from his name
Man, we hate when musicians do this. You got to choose your stage name, that’s one more name change than the rest of us get, so we’d prefer you just stick with it. But celebs will be celebs and if they decree that they no longer want a hyphen in their name, that hyphen is dead to us, we guess.
Jay Z’s (nee Jay-Z) label let Billboard editor Joe Levy know that Hova has officially dropped the hyphen — which Levy let the rest of us know through this tweet late last night.
Add it to the long, long list of musicians whose names we have to double check every time we want to write about ‘em: Snoop Lion (nee Snoop Dogg); Ms. Lauryn Hill (nee Lauryn Hill); Diddy Dirty Money (nee P. Diddy, nee nee Puff Daddy); uh, every single name change Prince ever had. You get the idea.
