The Word: Meghan McCain on her new show, ‘Raising McCain’

Meghan McCain, 28, chatted with reporters on Thursday night at the premiere of her new docu-talk series, “Raising McCain.” The cheery platinum blond says she is already bracing for the backlash. “The second episode hasn’t even aired on feminism and it’s already being attacked on websites, so I guess everything I do is controversial,” she said about the series, which has McCain exploring various topics such as bullying, feminism and the death of romance through experiences in her own personal life and in conversation while on the road. “People love me and people really love to hate me. I’m sure it’s going to be like everything else I’ve ever done— people are either going to love it or people are going to love to hate it.”

McCain’s father, former presidential candidate Sen. John McCain, did pop up at premiere (an hour and a half late, mind you) but didn’t answer any questions. But that doesn’t mean he isn’t a fan of the show. “There are different things that I’ve said and done in the past that he doesn’t love, but I think that my dad would be more upset with me if I were a wallflower that didn’t speak my mind and didn’t use my voice” she told reporters. “I’m lucky—my parents are weirdly supportive of my career. I don’t know why, but they continue to love and support me.”
