Our Top Ten dancers of Season 11’s “So You Think You Can Dance” got to dance with all new and highly qualified partners. Our newbies were challenged to keep up with some returning cast members in order to stay in the competition. But unlike before, when the dancers knew who was at risk of elimination, they now have to wait until after they perform to hear the results of how America voted. The Top Ten opened with an upbeat performance choreographed by Jamal Sims.

Bridget danced with returning all-star, Brandon, and the two took America on a joy ride by performing the first ever Bollywood Disco dance on the show. The audience and judges seemed to love it. It was a fun routine but considering this style of dance is a new one, there wasn’t much of a standard to hold her to.

Tanisha performed a passionate Argentina Tango routine with returnee Ryan. They’re both ballroom dancers so this routine fit them well. Nigel mentioned that whatever Tanisha does, she does it right, so this versatile dancer is safe this week. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for Emilio.

Emilio partnered with Jasmine and the two performed a hip-hop routine. The last time Emilio did hip-hop, it landed him in the bottom two so this week is much more about redeeming himself. He did well but Jasmine clearly stole the show with this one.

Sweet little Valerie was given the tough task of taking on a dark and mysterious look with returnee, Ade. However, despite the dance, the makeup, the song and even her partner, all three judges said the dance didn’t fit it. She failed to sell the story and the judges worry that she won’t be able to take on different forms of dance.

Rudy, another dancer with a strong and lovable personality, danced the Cha Cha with Jenna and what is supposed to be a sexy dance turned into a campy dance given Rudy’s natural liveliness. But unlike with Valerie, the judges didn’t have a problem with it because they said his footwork was on point and it “somewhat” sold the story. Hm. Double-standard maybe?

Jacque and Chehon also performed a first on the show with a contemporary ballet routine, and like in the case with Bridget, much was expected of Jacque as she introduced a new dance to everyone. Although her dance was so captivating it brought a hush upon the crowd, it cannot change the votes from last week, so Jacque was unfortunately at risk of elimination.

Jessica got to do a hip-hop routine with Twitch and didn’t really have to worry about her scores this week considering she got such high praise from the judges last week. Jessica said this was the routine she dreamed of and it was clear by the way she owned the performance – and that’s hard to do with Twitch on stage.

Ricky is another one dancing on the stars. He is not only one of the best dancers on the show, but also a fan favorite. So naturally his over-the-top jazz performance with Lauren was flawless. Hence he’s safe.

Casey and Kathryn gave a Broadway number based on a French game of “He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not.” The routine showed more depth to a side of Casey we hadn’t seen before and Casey was also safe this week.

Zach and last season’s winner, Amy, were the last performance of the night. They did a contemporary dance based on someone losing a close friend, in which he played the dearly departed friend. Needless to say it was a soul wrenching performance. No one expected that out of a tapper but Zach continues to amaze us all. Although Zach was also in the bottom four this week, voters saw hope and talent in him as well as Jacque, which mean Emilio and Bridget were left to say their goodbyes.
