TV watch list, Thursday, Aug. 21: ‘Simpsons,’ ‘Simpsons’ and ‘Simpsons’
The end of August can be a bit of a dry spell in terms of finding new TV to watch. People are busy enjoying those last couple of rays of sun before fall sets in, or avoiding thinking about school, or gently charring a range of meats on their barbecues. Trying a new tactic, FXX has essentially thrown up its hands in regard to showing any new programming at the moment, and is instead showing a marathon of every “Simpsons” episode ever. Yes, even now, as you’re stuck at work, you’re missing precious “Simpsons” moments. But don’t worry: For at least a little while, there will still be hours more “Simpsons” episodes to watch every night. Here’s what you can catch when you get home from work tonight.
‘Bart the Daredevil’
Bart pursues a career in death-defying stunts after going to a truck rally. The number of careers those kids have over the run of the show is pretty epic, considering they were children.
‘Itchy and Scratchy and Marge’
When there’s a moral stand to be taken in Springfield, it’s usually Marge or Lisa behind it. In this episode, Marge takes her turn, and objects to the violence of the kids’ beloved “Itchy and Scratchy” cartoon. It’s all a bit on the nose, really, since many parents objected to the tone of “The Simpsons” in its early days.
‘Bart Gets Hit by a Car’
The Simpsons family has one of its many scraps with town villain C. Montgomery Burns after he hits Bart with his car. Did anyone else watch this show as a child and assume their own job would one day involve snoozing in a chair in front of a lot of buttons while eating their own weight in donuts every day? Blatant false advertising, “Simpsons.”
‘One Fish, Two Fish, Blowfish, Blue Fish’
Never one to let a deal pass him by, Homer takes a local sushi restaurant at its word and forces it to really feed him all he can eat. Of course, then he maybe eats a poisonous fish and only has 24 hours to live. George Takei provided a voice in this episode, before we all knew social media George Takei.
