The Word: ‘Dancing with the Stars’ down to final four

In a way, there were actually two eliminations on last night’s “Dancing with the Stars” results episode: one contestant, and one half of the show’s episodes. Due to sagging ratings, “Dancing with the Stars” will air only once a week when Season 17 returns in the fall, according to USA Today.

That prospect didn’t dim the excitement of Season 16′s final five contestants, however. So which of the five had to hang up their spangles? Spoiler alert: With gymnast Aly Raisman and football player Jacoby Jones vying for first place, and Kellie Pickler and Zendaya trailing behind, it was soap actor Ingo Rademacher and his partner Kym Johnson who were sent packing.

“This has been an amazing experience,” Ingo said. “I thought I was going to be done after two weeks.” He went on to thank Kym for creating dances to accommodate his “two left feet.”

Adrianne Haslet-Davis, a woman whose foot had to be amputated after she was injured in the Boston Marathon bombing, was recently honored on “Dancing with the Stars.”

“We were all very moved by her inspirational outlook. We’ll tell you how we hope to be part of her recovery,” host Tom Bergeron said.

Haslet-Davis, a professional ballroom dancer, was near the Boylston Street finish line when the second blast went off. She and her husband, who has recently returned from service in Afghanistan, were both injured. Although he suffered shrapnel wounds, he managed to use his belt as a tourniquet for her foot wound and dragged her into a nearby restaurant.
