Demi Lovato’s father Patrick Lovato has passed away. The family has not released the details surrounding his death, but they broke the sad news on Twitter when Demi’s older sister Dallas tweeted, “Rest in peace daddy I love you.”

Patrick Lovato had reportedly been battling cancer for some time, according to Radar. Demi has yet to make a public statement on her father’s passing. Their relationship was known to be rocky — Demi reportedly hadn’t spoken to her father in years. “You try to have faith in somebody, even when you’re the last person that believes in him. But when somebody lets you down after you’ve been the only one there for them, and so many times, you don’t know what else to do. I had to cut off all connection. It was hurting me too much,” she told the New York Daily News in 2009.

Growing up in showbiz, Demi Lovato must have been precocious in a lot of ways. Unfortunately, depression was one of them.

Demi has struggled with depression since she was 7 years old, while starring on “Barney & Friends,” according to Us Weekly.

“The principal called my parents and made me sign this suicide contract saying that I would not kill myself,” Demi told Rolling Stone. “They weren’t expecting that so young.”

Demi, who was diagnosed with bipolar disorder as a teen, says her parents supported her decision to go to rehab and get the help she needed. ”Celebrities do have luxurious options, but my parents were like, ‘No, you’re going to learn something,’” she said.
