The Word: ‘Star Wars’ brass want Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill to lose weight

It seems like it’s not just the Force that’s strong with the Skywalker family: There’s also a weakness for sweets.

Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill have both been tapped to reprise their roles as Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker in the new “Star Wars” sequels, but their physiques have changed so much since their lightsaber days that the execs in charge of the galaxy far, far away are worried fans will find them unrecognizable. In fact, they’ve given the pairs their own personal trainers and nutritionists to help them get back into Jedi shape, according to the Daily Mail.

“Mark and Carrie need to be as close to their appearance in the earlier movies as possible. Producers are keen to help out and have offered support,” a source close to the production said.

“The budget is huge so there will be no expense spared.”

Well, presumably the biggest part of that huge budget is special effects. Why not just take the weight off in post?

If Al Pacino is to be believed, he could have been Han Solo. The Oscar-winner says he nearly starred in some of the biggest franchises in Hollywood history but decided to turn it down.

“‘Star Wars” was mine for the taking, but I didn’t understand the script,” Pacino told an audience in London, according to the Evening Standard. He also claims he turned down the lead role in “Die Hard” that eventually went to Bruce Willis. “I gave that boy a career,” Pacino said.
