Who’d have thought I’d need to have tissues handy for the Teen Choice Awards?

Lea Michele took home the award for Choice TV Actress, and in her acceptance speech she dedicated it to her boyfriend Cory Monteith, who passed away this summer following a drug overdose.

“I wanted to dedicate this award to Cory,” she said through her tears. “For all of you out there who loved and admired Cory as much as I did, I promise that with your love, we’re gonna get through this together. He was very special to me and also to the world, and we were very lucky to witness his incredible talent, his handsome smile and his beautiful, beautiful heart.”

Her touching speech is below. Again, don’t let the fact that she’s holding a novelty surfboard fool you. This is heartbreaking.

The actress only recently broke her silence about Monteith’s loss. Two weeks after his death, Michele posted a message on Twitter along with this gut-wrenching photo of the two of them taken shortly before Monteith died from a drug overdose.

“Thank you all for helping me through this time with your enormous love & support,” she wrote. “Cory will forever be in my heart.”
