The Word: Frank Ocean disses Chris Brown on Earl Sweatshirt’s ‘Sunday’

chris_brown_fight1

Do you ever wish that convention where artists diss each other as part of their performance would spread beyond hip-hop? Like, in the third act of a romantic comedy, Rachel McAdams stops chasing her soul mate through a flower market, turns to the camera, and explains why Katherine Heigl will never be as good as her, McAdams foreva, mic drop.

Anyway, that hasn’t happened yet, but Frank Ocean called out Chris Brown, so it’s still an okay morning.

Ocean has a guest verse on Earl Sweatshirt’s new album, on the track “Sunday.” He’s pretty clearly attacking Brown:

Forgot you don’t like it rough, I mean he called me a f****t.
I was just calling his bluff, I mean how anal am I gonna be when I am aiming my gun?
And why is his mug all bloody? That was a three-on-one.
Standing ovation at Staples, I got my Grammies in gold.

The Grammy line is a clear reference to how Brown chose to remains seated when Ocean got a standing ovation from the rest of the audience at the 2013 Grammy awards.

Have a listen for yourself below (warning: it’s explicit). Meg Ryan’s guest verse is pretty great too. Just kidding. I wish I weren’t though.
