The Word: Watch *NSYNC’s reunion on the VMAs

Confession: I barely remember *NSYNC.

Through some quirk of demographics, the boy band craze almost entirely bypassed my school. Ask me tomorrow and I will once more be unable to remember if Justin Timberlake is a former Backstreet Boy or NSYNCerator. (Was he both? Maybe he was both. See, I already can’t remember.)

But somehow, even I got a little excited about *NSYNC’s reunion at last night’s VMAs. I just love reunions. I love how hard they obviously worked on the dancing. I love how awkward the small talk must have been backstage. I love wondering whether the seething resentment was obvious when their big once-a-decade song was over, but it was only a small part of JT’s performance in the show. I love the chilling glimpse of the future they’re giving One Direction. Maybe they should wait 50 years for the next reunion. Then I’d really get into it.

The 2013 MTV VMAs rolled into Brooklyn on Sunday night, bringing twerking teens, passive-aggressive behavior from Taylor Swift and a reunion more hotly anticipated than your high school’s 10-year.

Lady Gaga kicked off the night with a performance of her new single, “Applause,” Miley Cyrus scandalized pretty much everyone, and Macklemore raked in the Moonmen. Read Metro’s full recap for all the big moments.
