The Word: ‘Glee’ is moving where?!

The next season of “Glee” will be its sixth and last, so it’s time to tie up all the loose ends. Possibly by sending them to Russia.

That’s right, “Glee” is considering setting one of its plot threads in Russia this year. Apparently, having characters shuttle between New York and Lima, Ohio, wasn’t enough: The powers that be want to add another country into the mix.

“We are mulling around the idea of moving Kurt (Chris Colfer) to Russia,” a “Glee” source tells E! Online. No word on what his storyline would be, but since gay rights are under siege in Russia, that seems a likely motivation for the move, and wow, does that seem like a bad idea. I applaud “Glee”‘s willingness to tackle tough issues unironically, but human rights crises generally don’t get solved with jazz hands.

“Glee” has never shied away from throbbing, operatic earnestness. But when it came time to mourn the real death of star Cory Monteith, the show took a surprisingly restrained route.

“There is no mention of addiction at all in the episode,” producer Brad Falchuck told the LA Times. “This episode is about grief, it’s not about any message. It’s about what it means to lose a friend. It’s not about how that friend is lost, it’s just about how people react to that loss.”
