If there is any truth to this rumor, Andrew Garfield may have pole vaulted past Justin Bieber and Shia LaBeouf to take the prize for most unlikable celebrity of the year. Shia just screams at Alec Baldwin, who can probably take it; Andrew, rumor has it, broke the heart of a little boy with cancer.

Garfield was scheduled to appear at the Oscars on Sunday with Batkid, the little boy with cancer for whom San Francisco transformed into Gotham for a day. The “Spiderman” star was to take part in an official ceremony to name Batkid an official superhero. However, Garfield apparently didn’t like his lines and wanted to change them.

“Garfield refused to go by the script. He came up with his own lines. The producers felt that Garfield’s [rewrites] were not appropriate. Garfield had a tantrum. He stormed off. Miles and his family, who were at the rehearsal, were devastated,” a source told Page Six.

Producers decided to cut the Batkid segment from the show and sent Miles and his family to Disneyland instead – which, for a California kid, may not have been much of a thrill. I really hope Garfield’s jerkishness is just a rumor, but even if he was a huge diva, it’s not just him – this reflects terribly on everyone involved. Garfield, of course, comes off as a real jerk – but what would possess the Oscar producers to put such pressure on a small sick child in the first place?
