Did Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin have an open marriage?

I really do feel bad for Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow. Say what you will about Gwyneth, but no one ever accused her of not trying hard. And if someone who tries about ten times harder than anyone else can’t win at marriage, what hope do mere mortals have?

That’s not to say that the Paltrow-Martin marriage was all picket fences and soccer games. Rumor has it that prior to their conscious uncoupling, Paltrow and Martin engaged in a fair amount of conscious coupling with other partners, according to E! Online.

Over the years, gossip linked both spouses to others. Gwyneth’s recent power struggle with Vanity Fair was reportedly the result of her attempt – ultimately successful – to keep the magazine from printing rumors of her affair with Florida businessman Jeffrey Soffer. She’s also been linked to “Glee” producer Brad falchuk and attorney Kevin Yorn. Coldplay star Martin, meanwhile, has reportedly been spotted with Kate Hudson, Kate Bosworth, and Helena Christensen. Man (allegedly) likes his blondes. Martin’s rep denied the Bosworth rumor, saying the story was “entirely untrue,” while Christensen also issued a strongly worded denial.

So is it true or isn’t it? This is probably just one of the great mysteries, guys. We’ll never know if Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin had an open marriage, just like we’ll never know if black holes exist.
