‘Game of Thrones’ duo to direct prison thriller film
“Game of Thrones” showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff shouldn’t even be able to look each other in the eye after the things they’ve put the people of Westeros through. But not only are they still gung ho about Stark torture, but they’ve signed on to torment a whole new batch of characters.
Weiss and Benioff are set to write and direct their first feature film together, according to Deadline. “Dirty White Boys,” based on novel of the same name by Stephen Hunter, is the story of three convicts who escape prison and the state trooper who tracks them.
Weiss says the feature is a nice change of pace from “Game of Thrones.”
“[In 'Dirty White Boys'], the villains do horrible things, but you feel for them. For Dan and I, we started writing ‘Game Of Thrones’ in 2006, and this book could not be more different, a contemporary thriller, but the characters are so well drawn that you become attached to them, good or bad, and you want to follow them,” he told Deadline.
Emotionally compelling villains? Everyone doing horrible things? Sounds pretty similar to me. Although presumably a contemporary prison thriller would have fewer dragons.
