Jonah Hill’s apology to end all apologies
Jonah Hill is the sorriest celebrity who ever called a photographer a homophobic slur (a surprisingly broad category).
Hill was caught on tape lashing out at a paparazzo who was pestering him and calling him names this weekend. “Suck my d—, f—–,” Hill finally snapped in return, no doubt giving the photographer exactly what he wanted.
Most celebrities would probably issue a carefully worded apology through their publicists and be done with it. Hill, who’s got a long history of advocating for the rights of the LGBTQ community, chose to appear on the Tonight Show himself to offer a very sad, very public apology.
Appearing very shaken and embarrassed, Hill said the paparazzi had been insulting him and his family. “I wanted to hurt him back, and I said the most hurtful word I could think of at that moment,” he said. “I didn’t mean it in a homophobic way… and I think that doesn’t matter. How you mean things doesn’t matter. Words have weight.”
Hill described himself as “heartbroken” and said he felt like he’d let the gay community down. Luckily I don’t think Jonah Hill was exactly a gay icon to begin with, so hopefully the gay community won’t be too broken up about the whole thing.
