Gary Oldman apologizes for a little of his bigotry

Gary Oldman has had a long time to do some soul-searching since yesterday, when he said some terrible things about Jews, African-Americans, and gay people. He has realized that he is deeply sorry for some of it. Just the Jew stuff, really.

Among Oldman’s many colorful remarks to Playboy, he opined that Mel Gibson only got in trouble for spouting anti-Semitic epithets because he’s “in a town run by Jews.” Whatever else is going on in Oldman’s withered old brain, he does at least understand that the ol’ Nazi refrain “Jews control the media” is not a road you want to go down, and he said as much in an open letter to the Anti-Defamation League.

“I am deeply remorseful that comments I recently made in the Playboy Interview were offensive to many Jewish people,” Oldman wrote, according to Page Six. “Upon reading my comments in print — I see how insensitive they may be, and how they may indeed contribute to the furtherance of a false stereotype.”

They do indeed contribute to that! However, speaking as a Jewish person: Come on, man. Don’t single us out. If you’re going to apologize to the people you offended, apologize to all of them – Jewish people, gay people, black people, and whoever else you say awful things about on a daily basis. Otherwise it just seems like you think we really do control the media.
