Amateur Gospel Night

Amateur Gospel Night – Co-Host Liz Black

Throughout its history, the Apollo Theater has maintained strong ties to the gospel community; with numerous gospel artists gracing the Apollo stage, such as Mahalia Jackson, Bebe and Cece Winans, Yolanda Adams and Donnie McClurkin. In honor of this joyous musical genre the world famous Apollo presents Amateur Night at the Apollo Gospel Night. Co-hosted by WBLS Christian radio personality, Liz Black, this special themed Amateur Night will feature gospel singer, Queen Esther Marrow. Discovered by the legendary Duke Ellington in 1965 Queen Esther has delighted audiences for decades performing with such diverse talent.

Amateur Night will feature staples like C.P. Lacey in the role of the “Executioner” (the character who sweeps “booed” contestants off the stage) and the Apollo’s Amateur Night house  band, led by musical director Onree Gill. Fans of the show can also expect the return of Amateur Night Digital (www.amateurnight.org), a more recent addition to the Amateur Night experience.  Tickets for Amateur Night begin at $20.  Amateur Night’s 2013 Season runs through November 2013, on Wednesday nights at 7:30 p.m.
