My Jazzy Valentine Jazz and the American Songbook

Hold your sweetheart close in the intimate, romantic setting of NJPAC’s Chase Room as WBGO’s Michael Bourne guides you through his hand-picked selection of romantic jazz standards—from “Misty” by Erroll Garner, “Round Midnight” by Thelonious Monk, “Lush Life” by Billy Strayhorn, to hits from Duke Ellington and Fats Waller—all interpreted by three of today’s freshest jazz and cabaret vocalists.

Christopher Gines has been acclaimed for his appearances at the Algonquin, the Rainbow Room, and Birdland, and credited by The New York Times for “resurrect(ing) a tradition of polished, manly crooning that in recent years has seemed all but extinct.” LaTanya Hall, critically praised for her reinvention of American standards, has been described by Jazz.com as “a woman ripe with talent whose interpretive skills are a marvel.” Hilary Kole (also the evening’s music director), a finalist in last year’s inaugural Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition at NJPAC, is an artist The Los Angeles Times says “transforms standards into compelling new musical short stories.
