Chen Dance Center announces the May edition of newsteps, its highly-praised emerging choreographers series. Five choreographers were selected for the May 8-10 concerts: Sheena Annalise, Mishi Castroverde, Caitlyn Johansen, Siobhan Lawless, and Magic.

Sheena Annalise will present Boundless, an women’s on pointe work that stresses dexterity, line, and the feeling of a vast open space;

Mishi Castroverde‘s new duet is inspired by the possibility of ghosts – particularly how the different types of ghosts we all encounter throughout our lives manifest themselves to haunt us;
Caitlyn Johansen‘s new solo has grown out of her obsession with Edith Piaf, Janis Joplin, and Billie Holiday, three successful and powerful female icons whose lives knew great sadness;
Siobhan Lawless presents Cunado No Hay Nada Que Decir,  stemming from the idea, using the double negation, that there is always something to be said;
Magic‘s The Last Butterfly works with nature’s many shapes, the spiral and circle playing a large role.  Magic is influenced by the popular belief that when the bumble bees and the butterflies go, so will we.
