Rhys Tivey CD Release

Rhys Tivey CD Release

Haunting melody pierces the soul throughout the journey of this extraordinary debut album for trumpeter, vocalist, and composer, Rhys Tivey. His quartet, featuring pianist Jean-Michel Pilc, drummer Ross Pederson, and bassist Sam Minaie, takes influence from jazz and uses lyrical improvisation to freely explore the spirit of each composition.

“This is a really great record. It’s easily something you can listen to all the way through and never lose interest. It is compelling, beautiful, gives you what you want but pushes you just enough. The band plays really, really great together.” Ralph Alessi, trumpeter and composer

This will be Tivey’s third performance at the Cutting Room, after performing twice there with pianist/vocalist extraordinaire, Phoebe Legere. A member of the prestigious Empire State Youth Orchestra as a teen, Tivey toured Austria, Germany and the Czech Republic and performed at such top venues as Carnegie Hall and Tanglewood. In the two years he led the resident jazz quartet of Gallagher’s in Manhattan, he was joined by legendary jazz vocalist Jon Hendricks, along with top players such as Gilad Heckselman, Francois Moutin, Andy Milne, Lou Soloff, Tony Moreno and Dave Pietro.
