The Yellow Dogs

Papertwin, Dinowalrus, Zula

The Yellow Dogs, a post- punk band integral to the creation of the underground music scene in Tehran, were first exposed by the Cannes Festival award winning film “No One Knows About Persian Cats” which shows the underground music scene in Iran. Now 3 years since their arrival, they’ve sought asylum from government persecution in the throes of Brooklyn and established themselves in their new home while earning recognition from Rolling Stone, and Spin to Oyster Magazine and The Huffington Post. Releasing 2 EPs , “In the Kennel” and “Upper Class Complexity” via their own label, Neverheard Inc in which their sound was described by eMusic as “a little out-of-step with the current Brooklyn-scene moment, but in the best possible way”. Consistently playing atleast one show per month in Brooklyn (for years now), they have traveled through out 36 states, and even opened for bands such as The Black Lips, The Oh Sees, and Chk Chk Chk. It seems that the Yellow Dogs “crackle with more life, wit, tension and imagination than most of their peers….maybe there’s something to be said for having to work for it.”
