UPDATE: Three pedestrians and a bicyclist were wounded in a motor vehicle collision in the East Village this morning, police reported. [related tag ="nypd"]

The incident occurred around 6:58 a.m. this morning, cops said, when a white 2013 Nissan Altima driving southbound on Second Avenue jumped the curb on the west side of the avenue between Fifth and Fourth streets.

Preliminary police reports indicate the car, driven by a 32-year-old man with a female passenger, hit a sign, a fire hydrant and a tree, and then continued down the block.

The driver then hit three men in front of a grocery store at 69 Second Ave., police said. Two of the victims, aged 38 and 53, suffered nonlife-threatening injuries. The third victim, 62, was in serious condition when all three were taken to Bellevue Hospital.

The men had been watering plants outside the store when they were hit, cops said. [related tag ="nyc crime"]

Cops said the driver continued farther, finally coming to a stop 3 feet away from a wheelchair ramp at East Fourth Street and Second Avenue, where he hit a 37-year-old man on a rented CitiBike. That victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital, along with the driver, who was listed in stable condition with only minor injuries.

Police say the incident is under investigation. According to law enforcement sources, the driver will likely face charges, possibly for a DUI. The female passenger has reportedly given a statement to police.

Police have identified the driver as Shaun Martin, 32, from Queens. The 62-year-old victim's condition has been upgraded and he is no longer considered likely to die. Police say the 38-year-old is in stable condition, and the 37-year-old cyclist and the 54-year-old who was outside the grocery store are both likely to survive.

The FDNY reported six people injured: one in serious condition, four in serious but stable condition, and one with minor injuries. There were two vehicles involved in the initial report of the incident, the fire department said, but they could not confirm that at this time.

Cops said four victims were taken to Bellevue Hospital. Three were not likely to die from their injuries, but one victim, a man in his 60s, reportedly suffered life-threatening injuries. The driver had only minor injuries.

The Highway Collision Investigation Squad was requested to respond to the scene.

UPDATE: Police have released the identities of the four-year-old victim and the alleged driver, who has now been arrested. [related tag ="nypd"]

Police say Franklin Reyes, 17, was driving the car that hit and killed 4-year-old Bronx resident Ariel Russo.

Reyes is being charged with manslaughter and vehicular manslaughter.

Russo's 55-year-old grandmother was also hit and injured in the collision. She was brought to St. Luke's Hospital in critical condition but is now listed as stable, cops said.

Police say Reyes waived Miranda rights and told detectives he took his mother's car without permission and was on his way to St. Agnes Boys High School, where he is a student.

He only has a learner's permit, cops said.

He reportedly told detectives that he fled from the police out of panic when he was pulled over.

The driver reversed, trying to flee, but backed up into a parked car, according to the police report.

He was apprehended and taken into police custody at the scene, cops said. The Highway Collision Investigation Squad was called to the scene.

(NYPD)[/caption]

Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes has increased the charges against Julio Acevedo, the alleged driver in the March 3 hit-and-run that killed a young Orthodox couple and their baby, adding manslaughter in the second degree.

Acevedo spent several days telling news outlets he was going to turn himself in, before he was arrested by police officers in a Pennsylvania parking lot on March 7.

He was indicted on March 12 after police charged him with leaving the scene of an accident, criminally negligent homicide, and vehicular manslaughter.

Prosecutors did not file the vehicular manslaughter charges until today's indictment.

If convicted, Acevedo could face up to life in prison.

According to the DA's investigation, Acevedo was driving almost 70 miles-per-hour down Kent Avenue in Williamsburg on March 3, more than twice the speed limit.

When his car struck the livery taxi carrying the Glaubers, who were on their way to a hospital check-up related to the pregnancy, witnesses reportedly saw him get out, observe the damage and run.

The impact sent pregnant Raizy Glauber flying out of the car. She was found underneath a tractor trailer nearby. Doctors were able to deliver her baby three months premature by c-section, but the baby died the next day.

The witnesses were firefighters and a civilian driver, all of whom apparently saw Acevedo speeding and "passing cars recklessly" moments before the impact. The witnesses reported hearing Acevedo's car accelerate and seeing it increase its speed.

Acevedo has previously served time in jail on manslaughter charges, and was charged with a DWI last month, though the court reportedly did not suspend his license, according to a report from NY1.

(NYPD)[/caption]

The suspect in a fatal Brooklyn car crash that killed a young pregnant woman, her husband and ultimately their baby, has been charged with three felony counts of criminally negligent homicide. [related tag="crime"]

Julio Acevedo, 44, was arraigned Thursday night and also charged with leaving the scene of the accident, excessive speed, assault and reckless driving. Police had also charged Acevedo with vehicular manslaughter for the death of the baby who was born after the accident, but prosecutors did not file that charge, The New York Times reports.

Raizy and Nachman Glauber, both 21, were on their way to the hospital in a livery cab just after midnight on Sunday because the woman was not feeling well. Acevedo, driving a borrowed BMW at more than 60 miles per hour, slammed into the car carrying the Glaubers, killing them. The premature baby was born via C-section at Bellevue Hospital, but died the next day.

The driver of the cab is recovering from his injuries and spoke to reporters on Thursday. He said he cannot remember the accident, but he knows the area well and he did not break any traffic laws.

Acevedo, an ex-con who was on the run for three days after the crash, could face anywhere from 15 years to life in prison. He was arrested just last month for drunk driving and previously served eight years in prison for a shooting death in 1987.

A lawyer for the suspect said on Thursday that the crash was "an accident, a horrible accident."

Yankees outfielder Ichiro Suzuki was uninjured after totaling his Land Rover in a car accident in Tampa, Fla. on Saturday afternoon.

Ichiro was cut off by a driver making an illegal left turn three miles from Steinbrenner Field, according to Tampa police. The other driver was given a summons for the accident and Ichiro was cleared of any responsibility.

"You're going to have to do a lot worse to have me get hurt, I guess,'' Ichiro told reporters in camp Sunday morning.

Even though he reported no pain or injuries, the team doctors did check him out just to be careful. Ichiro made the trip to yesterday’s spring training game against Boston, but did not play. The Yankees beat the Sox, 5-2, in a game in which few regulars played.

The Yankees could little afford to lose another outfielder after Curtis Franderson broke his arm last week. He will be out for two months.
